◆ MT4 and MT5 trading journal

An MT4 and MT5 trading journal that starts with one import

MetaTrader records every fill, but its history tab cannot tell you which setup earned money or which session cost you. Alpha Charts reads MetaTrader CSV exports, maps open price, close price and profit automatically, and adds what MetaTrader is missing: setups, stops in R, mistakes, emotions and analytics.

The context MetaTrader does not store.

F/04

Mistakes and emotion

The behaviour behind the numbers.

F/05

Notes

What you saw, what you planned, what you would do differently.

§ 02 · What to review

The numbers that actually change your results

M/01

Expectancy by setup

Which of your MetaTrader strategies earns.

M/02

Session analysis

London, New York and Asia results side by side.

M/03

R lost to each tagged mistake.

§ 03 · Common leaks

Mistakes a journal catches

  • Reviewing performance only from the MetaTrader balance curve.
  • Not recording a stop for trades closed manually.
  • Mixing EA trades and discretionary trades in one set of statistics.
  • Exporting history only once a year.
§ 04 · Workflow

How it works in Alpha Charts

  1. In MetaTrader, export your account history.
  2. Upload the CSV in Alpha Charts — MetaTrader columns are detected automatically.
  3. Add stops, setups and tags to the imported trades.
  4. Review analytics and set an action plan for next week.
§ 05 · FAQ

Questions about the MT4 and MT5 trading journal

Does Alpha Charts support both MT4 and MT5?

Yes. MetaTrader CSV exports with open price and close price columns are detected and mapped automatically.

Do I need to give Alpha Charts my MetaTrader login?

No. Imports use an exported CSV file. Your broker credentials are never needed.

What if my export has different column names?

The importer handles common variations, and the generic CSV template is available for anything it does not recognise.
